Jamelie Hassan is a visual artist based in London, Ontario. She has exhibited internationally and her works are in numerous public collections including: the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Museum London, London, ON; the Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; The Art Gallery of Windsor, Windsor;  McIntosh Gallery and The University of Western Ontario, London, ON; Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, UBC, Vancouver; and The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, U.S.A. In 2001, she received the Governor General's Award in recognition of 30 years of contribution to visual arts in Canada, and the Chalmers Art Fellowship in 2006. A major survey of her work, Jamelie Hassan: At the Far Edge of Words curated by Melanie Townsend and Scott Watson, was presented at Museum London in 2009 and recieved the Ontario Art Gallery Association's Award (OAAG) for best exhibition of the year. Jamelie Hassan: At the Far Edge of Words is presented in partnership with the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, University of British Columbia, Vancouver where it will open  June 18, 2010 at the Belkin Art Gallery.
